In 2012, it was estimated that over 600 million pounds of candy was bought and handed out in the US. This tradition dates back decades and is just part of the normal Halloween celebration. Families all across the country celebrate Halloween and enjoy all of that candy but what about Americans not in the country? 2018 Operation Gratitude is our way of giving back a taste of home to the men and women in our armed forces.
Let the 2018 Operation Gratitude collection be your way to get rid of some of that extra Halloween candy and share it with the armed forces.
What is 2018 Operation Gratitude?
Since the very first Operation Gratitude in 2003, the drive has been a success. Over 2 million care packages have been sent out to our troops and first responders. These packages may just be filled with candy and that doesn’t seem like much. However, when you’re overseas or busy protecting people on Halloween night, you lose that tradition of trick or treating with family and friends. A simple piece of your favorite candy could remind you of those fun holidays, time with friends and most importantly, time with family. Not to mention, what is Halloween without something sweet?
Even More from Operation Gratitude
Operation Gratitude has sent out over 2,107,264 care packages. While the Halloween season means Halloween candy care packages, that’s not all that is sent throughout the year. Other care packages include things like handmade scarves, letters, foods, sanitary products and so much more. But the most important thing inside every package is not tangible, it is the care and thought that goes into every single package, every envelope, every item shipped. While we can’t thank each and every member of the armed forces and every single first responder, we can try and you can help.
2018 Operation Gratitude with Sandi and Debbie
We have, once again, teamed up with Operation Gratitude to help collect Halloween candy in our area to donate. All of Orange County is invited to donate any unopened Halloween candy they have and our goal is to shatter our previous records. Two years ago, we collected 2,220 pounds of candy and we want to double that number.
To donate, give us a call at (949) 293-5139 and ask us how to schedule a drop off between November 5-7 2018. First, you collect the candy on Halloween, for free, then you donate the leftovers or extras. It’s never been easier to make a difference in the worlds of those who protect yours. You can also email us at Debbie@SandiandDebbieHomes.com to request a pickup. Just be sure that any candy donated is unopened and placed into a Ziploc bag.
