Cinco de Mayo History
The best Cinco de Mayo recipes can help you celebrate the Mexican heritage and history all through fun flavors. Many people in the US assume that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s version of our very own Independence Day.
However, that is not the case. You could compare Cinco de Mayo to America’s holidays like Veterans Day or Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In fact, Cinco de Mayo is actually celebrating a single battle being won during the Franco-Mexican War.
The battle was fought in Puebla, and the town still celebrates it today. There are military parades, festivals, music, and more in the city of Puebla. Some other parts of Mexico still celebrate as well, but it is not considered a federal holiday.
