The change of the seasons means it’s time to change out routines. When the color of the summer sun fades into the browns and oranges of the leaves it’s time to check your home. Before Fall gets here is best, but if not that’s ok, just ensure your home is ready for the change in the weather. Making sure the cold breeze stays outdoors, and the rain that falls lands where it should is most important. Getting ready in the Fall is also best because a few of these things should be done for Winter as well.
Essentially, it’s time to put that winter coat on your home and do a little Fall home maintenance.
-
Check roof tops for leaks
-
Fix cracks on walkways and driveways
-
Check for air leaks in doorways, windows, and exterior walls
-
Insulate outdoor plumbing
-
Ensure furnace is running at par
-
Clean Fireplace and chimney (even if you don’t use them)
-
Indoor gas lines for leaks (if you have gas running appliances and heaters)
-
Put fresh batteries in fire and gas detectors
-
Recycle unneeded paper indoors or donate items you don’t use anymore helps reduce the spread of fire
-
Clean gutters (after the leaves have fallen)
-
Weatherstrip where needed
-
Change direction of ceiling fans
-
Run and clean humidifiers
-
Clear and store garden hoses
-
Store all summer gardening tools safely
-
Clean and store outdoor furniture
These are a few things you can do to ensure your family is as safe as possible during the Fall/Winter seasons. Once the end of Fall comes, there are a few more things you can do to ensure Winter is enjoyed rather than shivered through. Remember that everything done to your home could help up the curb appeal in the event you decide to sell later down the road. Most of all, enjoy the beauty of the change in seasons.
