Thousand Steps Beach Tips | Parking
Parking is located on top of the hill and you will need to walk down the steps to get to the beach from there. However, there are not a thousand steps to get down to the beach though it may feel like it at the end of the day. Instead, there are 248 steps to get down to and up from the beach. That means you will want to make sure you have everything you will need when you head down to the beach from your car. Your legs will thank you for only making the trip the one time to get there and the one time to get back to your car.
Check Tide Times
You plan the perfect day at the beach, everything is going smoothly. But then, you arrive at the beach and there is not much beach to explore. This happens to many tourists and people who do not visit the beach that often. You can avoid this by simply checking tide times. Thousand Steps beach is no different. You should check tide times to ensure you arrive at the beach during low tide so you can get the most from the experience. Though, there is still plenty of space on the beach even if you do not go at the lowest tide possible.
Tide Pools
There are tide pools you can enjoy but only during low tide. You will need to walk north along the beach once you get to the bottom of the steps. Climb over the rock ledge and you will find all the tide pools. You can find different things in the tidepools like mussels, limpets, sea snails, and so much more. You may even find a fish or two. However, you will want to be careful in this area and make sure you have proper attire because you will get wet and the area is rocky.
Public Beach
One of the most important Thousand Steps Beach to know is that it is a public beach. There are a few beaches in Orange County that are private beaches. The only way to access the private beaches is to be a resident in the area. But Thousand Steps Beach is a public beach and is available for everyone to enjoy. In fact, there is even a lifeguard on duty at this beach. The lifeguard may prevent you from going into the cave area during certain times. But it is important to listen to the lifeguard as they are only trying to protect you.
Second Parking Lot
Most people find that there are issues with the parking situation at the top of the hill. Most people park along the highway and that is perfectly fine. However, that area fills fast. Luckily, you can also park for free at the hospital across the street for free after 3 PM. You should check with any parking attendant that may be there, but many people park here to get to the beach.
